Four Freedoms

Four Freedoms

I recently spent a nice afternoon drawing with friends at the FDR Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island – this drawing is of the monument at the end of the park. Designed by Louis I. Kahn, it’s the first memorial dedicated to FDR in his home state of NY. More info here.

The park honors the essential Four Freedoms that President Roosevelt laid out in his State of the Union speech on January 6, 1941:

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

FREEDOM OF WORSHIP

FREEDOM FROM WANT

FREEDOM FROM FEAR

Good freedoms to have, and important freedoms to defend.
